GOS Parent Voice | Every Child is Self-sufficient

During the parent teacher conferences weeks ago, the teacher of the Student Affairs told me to talk about the changes in Luca's growth in the past few years and my family's educational philosophy, which really honoured and surprised me. After returning home, I began to reflect on the changes that Luca had every year of his studies in the GOS, and the traces of his growth were indeed worth writing about. 


Friendship is the foundation of

The teacher of the Student Affairs asked me, what do you think is the biggest gain for your child in GOS? Health, Happiness Responsibility, Friendship, Ability, Encouragement?

 

I didn't hesitate to choose: Friendship.

 

Yes, the friendship between classmates, the friendship between teachers and students, and the friendship between schoolmate, I think this is the best gift that GOS has given to Luca.

 

Luca was a cautious and sensitive child from an early age, and now he is a little social expert. I think it's all due to the open social culture that GOS has always adhered to and the culture that values teacher-student relationships.

 

In GOS, every class of teachers would tell me that Luca was the most popular friend in the class, and everyone is willing to partner with him when doing activities.

 

And in the social culture of GOS, he slowly formed his own pure concept of friendship, that  I should learn from him. Every time he told me stories about his time with his best friends, I was deeply moved by his purity.

 

"Mom, my good friend XXX won the award, I am so happy, I stand up and applaud him, I want him to see my happiness and congratulations"

 

"Mom, my good friend XXX was elected as a student representative, and I voted for him the most precious because I think he deserves it"

 

"Mom, my good friend got a perfect score in XXX math, I'm not surprised at all, he should be this strength!"

 

"Mom, when I listened to the principal read the list of winners, I kept silently reciting the name of my good friend XXX in my heart, and I knew that he must have won the award!"

 

"Mom, Mr.V is playing with us again today, and our team won..."

 

"Mom, today Mr.V sent me a special award, I think this award is the best and worth more than all the awards......"

 

This simple and pure friendship in GOS seeds in the hearts of children that grow health, happiness, responsibility, talent and mutual encouragement!


From passive and cautious to

confident and positive

Chinese Speech

I'm a working mom who loves my career and spends a lot of time at work, and I know that family and work balance has always been unbalanced. I often say to Luca and Dora: don't expect me to be a perfect mother, I can't do everything for you. And I do not expect you to be perfect kids. We all try our best. That is more than enough.

 

In line with the positioning and expectation of this 60-point ordinary mother and 60-point ordinary child, we adults and children, we both do our best and work hard to do its part well.

 

I have never been anxious about his studies,  and I do not like to take the initiative to give my children extra work. Because I think that the learning status and absorption that the child is involved in school is the most important, if it is absorbed in school, there is no need to put too much pressure on the child to go home, as long as you see the child making progress little by little.

 

Luca transferred to GOS few years ago, because of online classes, the foundation was relatively weak at the beginning, and he was more introverted and cautious, so the overall learning attitude was relatively passive. It was very fortunate to have met the teachers, Mr.O and Ms.L, who gave Luca a lot of encouragement in the first year. They gave a lot of practical advice on Luca's adaptability and learning growth, and rewarded Luca for every little bit of growth, which gave him a lot of steady growth and a lot of confidence in the first year.

 

With the help of Year 5 teachers, Mr.V and Ms.C, and Ms. Lei, Luca's overall learning attitude has made a qualitative leap, and the whole person has become confident and positive. It was also in this year that i found that he had a big advantage of using a unique way of using words and expression, and his Critical Thinking gradually developed, so he completed his first "short story" - "The Origin of Evil Consequences", and confidently shared it with Ms. Lei.

 

In the first three years of Luca's self-confidence, energy, including knowledge, accumulated with the encouragement and help of all teachers, burst out as soon as the school started. He became very proactive, in September, he often told me that he wanted to participate in the XX project, to participate in the XX campaign, for several days as soon as he got home and began to write the transcript of the speech, practice the speech by himself, these were all his spontaneous behavior, there is no need for reminders and help, and as a bystander, I keep encouraging the process of participation, because I clearly know that the process is far more important and meaningful than the result. Whatever the result, he needs to be supported and seen.

 

Two weeks ago, I was deeply touched by Mr. N and Ms.S, as well as the Chinese teachers, who paid attention to Luca, and told me that they found Luca very good at drama performance and public speaking, and should provide him with more opportunities to encourage him and train him. I am very grateful and very touched, if it weren't for the discovery of the teachers, I am afraid that it would be difficult for me as a parent to find out that Luca is good at this area.

Every child is self-sufficient!

After the parent-teacher conferences that day, I deeply realized that education is quite amazing things that example is always more efficacious than precept.

 

I have always believed that every child is unique and that every child is born with their own content.

 

The main role of schools and parents is to be an explorer and awaken the child's own abilities, and provide enough love and appropriate opportunities for him to shine.

 

What a wonderful thing it is to educate at the same frequency as parent and school, with enough communication.  

 

And Luca is so lucky to have such love and encouragement in GOS!
