Being a Y6 Scientist
Author: Mr. Adam Cochrane
Solving problems is a real team activity and Year 6 have been learning to undertake different responsibilities in their science lessons. One person has responsibility for resourcing and health and safety, one has communication and personnel and one is the scientist.
Year 6 have developed their knowledge of circuits this semester. This week they were challenged to solve a real life industrial problem: an energy company needs to develop a warning system for when their cooling towers are full of water. Can they help?
The children worked in teams to devise a solution with each person having a responsibility – Resources Manager, Communications Officer and Scientist. First, they planned out their ideas and then gave their equipment to the resource manager to collect.
They then worked together to solve the problem. We had some complicated and elaborate plans to solve the problem. Most of the ideas worked with refinement. I look forward to reading their reports.
