Sport at GOS

Sport is an important part of life at GOS, providing students with opportunities to develop their skills, build confidence, demonstrate teamwork and represent their school with pride.

GOS is a founding member of the Shenzhen International Schools Athletic Conference (SISAC), a league made up of six international schools across Shenzhen. Throughout the year, our teams compete against other SISAC schools in the core sports of football, volleyball and basketball, alongside aligned sports and invitational competitions including touch rugby, badminton, cross country, swimming and athletics.

Students also have the opportunity to represent GOS at NESSIC tournaments. These weekend-long competitions bring together international schools from across China and provide students with the chance to compete against new opponents and experience a higher level of competition. NESSIC offers tournaments in a wide range of sports, including volleyball, football, basketball, badminton, golf, swimming and ultimate frisbee.

Whether competing for GOS in a local league or travelling to tournaments across China, our sports programme aims to provide students with meaningful opportunities to challenge themselves, develop as athletes and experience the pride of representing their school.

Physical Education at GOS

At GOS, our Physical Education programme is about developing a love of movement and lifelong engagement in physical activity. We want students to enjoy being active, feel confident participating and understand the positive impact that physical activity can have on their lives.

Our focus goes beyond simply playing games. Students develop transferable movement skills, tactical understanding and teamwork skills that can be applied across a wide range of sports and physical activities. Rather than spending weeks simply playing the same game, students are given opportunities to learn, practise and apply skills in meaningful and engaging situations.

We place a strong emphasis on positive team play, communication, effort and inclusion. Success in PE is not just about being the most skilled athlete. It is about being an active, supportive and respectful member of a team, challenging yourself and helping others to succeed.

Through a varied and purposeful PE curriculum, we aim to help every student develop the confidence, skills and positive attitudes needed to enjoy being active both at school and beyond.
