At Green Oasis School, professional development is central to our commitment to continuous improvement. We believe that excellent schools are built by reflective, curious professionals who continue to develop their knowledge and practice throughout their careers. Staff are encouraged to engage with current educational research and global developments, identify meaningful areas for growth, and take an active role in shaping their own professional learning.
Professional learning at GOS takes many forms. Opportunities may include workshops, conferences, webinars and online courses, as well as peer observation, coaching, action research, professional reading and collaborative learning within teams and departments. Staff meetings and dedicated training sessions also provide regular opportunities to explore school priorities, strengthen classroom and administrative practice, and learn from the expertise of colleagues across the school.
Our memberships in EARCOS, CIS and NESSIC connect GOS staff with respected international and regional professional networks. Through these organisations, staff can access top tier professional learning, including annual conferences and regular virtual and face-to-face workshops. These opportunities enable colleagues to learn from educational experts, exchange ideas with professionals from other international schools and remain connected to emerging research and effective practice.
Individual professional development is emphasised through the school’s appraisal process, helping staff connect their own aspirations with departmental goals and GOS’s wider strategic priorities. The school commits significant resources to professional learning, including school-initiated programmes and an annual individual professional development allowance available to all staff. GOS may also provide additional support for approved postgraduate degrees, professional qualifications and other substantial programmes.
We aim for professional learning to have a lasting impact beyond the individual participant. Staff are expected to apply new knowledge in their work and share their learning with colleagues, helping to build expertise and capacity across the school. GOS also supports staff in contributing to the wider educational community, including presenting at professional conferences. For teachers joining GOS, this creates a collaborative environment in which professional growth is encouraged, supported and closely connected to better experiences and outcomes for students.
